I have been mediating for the last 21 years, having clocked up in excess of 600 as mediator. In addition to acting as mediator, I have taken my clients to mediation whilst I was a solicitor, and I have been a party at many mediations on behalf of my previous law firm, so I have seen the process from most angles, and have some idea of what the various attendees at a mediation have to cope with on the day. I have no particular specialism as a mediator, having dealt with all manner of disputes.
The 5 “specialisms” listed on this site do not reflect the areas that I have mediated, but represent what I have done most of. Whilst a solicitor I handled a large amount of professional negligence work for all types of professionals including accountants, financial advisers, architects, surveyors, engineers, bankers, actuaries and solicitors. I also handled commercial contractual disputes, a lot of which were engineering related matters. I have acted and mediated for individuals, small, medium and large sized businesses, local authorities, government agencies and multinational companies. My view is that the process is much more to do with those involved in the dispute than the background to the dispute itself.
