As a business owner as well as a litigation solicitor, Richard has a great deal of practical experience in working with others to solve problems and to conclude disputes. He has advised and represented many different clients in the private, public and charity sectors in relation to a wide variety of disputes and has a good understanding of what often causes and prolongs them. Calm, diplomatic and persistent, Richard has an exceptionally good understanding of, and familiarity with, not just mediation, but also the mechanics of litigation and arbitration.
Richard is a litigation lawyer, ranked in the 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015 UK editions of the independent Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession as a “Leading Individual” in Litigation for the Yorkshire region. He is presently a Board Director at Harrowells Limited, which is headquartered in York. His practice covers a wide spectrum of disputes, including those concerning contracts, construction/technology projects, property and commercial leases, as well as claims against professionals. Particular areas of interest include insolvency-related litigation (including directors’ duties), disputes involving partnerships and between shareholders, as well as those arising from the acquisition and disposal of businesses.
As well as being an accredited ADR Group Civil & Commercial Mediation and a member of the ADR Group Civil and Commercial panel, Richard is a member of the Professional Negligence Lawyers Association, the Law Society of England and Wales, the Yorkshire Law Society and a member of the York Guild of Building.
