Confidentiality: What does it mean?

I0Confidentiality is one of the key principles of mediation. Yet when discussing scenarios with other mediators, it becomes clear that we all define it differently in practice. Some of that variation will depend on one's field of mediation, training or other obligations. This session is an experiment--no speaker, just some questions to consider in small groups with fellow mediators. There will be several different breakout sessions and a chance to feed back if wished to the larger group. Some possible topics below, but we welcome your ideas. If you have a particular question, can suggest an anonymised scenario, or would like to help facilitate a group, please email info@nancyradford.com  by 17 May.
  • How do you describe confidentiality in your opening statement?
  • What concerns do you have around confidentiality?
  • How do you manage breaches of confidentiality?
  • What steps do you take to ensure confidentiality in mediations? What about online?
  • In what situation (if any) would you not keep something confidential?
This CPD session will not be recorded, and is open to all mediators, regardless of their experience or field of mediation. While we trust that discussions will be confidential, this may mean different things to different people....j
